Pakistan: PTI MP makes big allegation, says Imran Khan was plotting against army chief

Islamabad:

Aamir Liaquat Hussain, a member of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and the now-dissolved National Assembly, has posted a video on social media and claimed that Imran Khan once called him and told him that he was planning to dethrone Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

“I am a witness that you wanted to remove General Bajwa. This is a very big thing, what I am saying today. I know many such things. If I disclose those things, then there will be a big uproar,” he said in a video message on Twitter.

In the video, an angry Liyaquat Hussain said, “You tried to create division in the army. You tried to elevate a corps commander and tried to remove the army chief.”

He also said that the letter submitted by Imran Khan to prove the ‘foreign’ provocation behind the opposition’s move against him is fake.

“None of us are anti-nationals. But you called all of us anti-nationals. I wasn’t even there to vote. I was unwell and the doors were closed when I arrived,” he said.

It was earlier reported that Imran Khan was trying to create a division inside the Pakistan Army through the current corps commander of Peshawar, Lt Gen Faiz Hameed, who was close to him.

The no-confidence motion against Imran Khan, which was not allowed in the assembly on 3 April, was evident in Imran Khan’s disenchantment with the Pakistan Army, though the army kept its distance from the political turmoil.

According to reports, the Pakistan Army asked Imran Khan to resign, which Khan refused and instead called for the dissolution of the assembly. While it was alleged that Imran Khan fell out of favor with the army, he said that there is no disagreement with the army. He even showed the no-confidence motion against him as a US conspiracy, which has nothing to do with the military.

Imran Khan said his recent visit to Moscow (after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine) upset the US, which has been sidelining Pakistan for some time now. Bajwa’s statement on Ukraine-Russia and US, makes it clear that Imran Khan and Bajwa are not together.

General Bajwa had recently said that Pakistan has good relations with the US. On the Russo-Ukraine war, Bajwa said, “Aggression against a small country cannot be forgiven.”
