Pakistan: 3 Chinese women among four killed in Karachi blast, BLA claims responsibility


There has been a massive explosion in Pakistan’s Karachi University. According to Geo News, the blast took place in a car parked on the university campus. Four people, including three Chinese women, have reportedly been killed in the blast. 

Four other people who were close to the van at the time of the explosion were injured. According to media reports, three of them are in critical condition.

The Jang newspaper reported that the van was carrying three Chinese women – who used to teach Chinese at the IBA Institute inside Karachi University – when the blast took place. Behind the van on a motorcycle were two Rangers personnel. They were also injured in this blast.

According to the news agency Reuters, the responsibility of the blast was taken by the separatist group of Baloch Liberation Army (BLA). An email sent to a Reuters reporter said the blast was carried out by a female suicide bomber.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah orders an inquiry

Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has taken cognizance of the incident and directed the Anti-Terrorism Department and SSP East to conduct an investigation. 

Shah issued instructions to shift the injured to Dow University Hospital and also asked the Karachi police commissioner to submit an inquiry report.

Karachi police chief expresses the possibility of a suicide blast

Giving more details on the incident, Eastern Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Muqaddas Haider told reporters that nothing can be said at the moment. 

Meanwhile, Gulshan’s superintendent of police (SP) said that investigation is on whether the blast was a terrorist act or an accident. The SP has called a bomb disposal squad to the spot, while the dead and injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital, where the condition of three injured is stated to be critical. 

Meanwhile, Karachi Police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said that according to preliminary investigation, a woman wearing a burqa could be involved in the suicide blast.
