News24 Exclusive: Know what injured Delhi Police SI said on Jahangirpuri violence

New Delhi:

The story behind the violence that took place during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi is slowly unfolding.

Delhi Police SI Medalal Meena, who was injured during the violence, told News 24 that the procession was being held peacefully.

Two processions had left and the third was leaving. Arguments broke out between the two sides after the procession came in front of the mosque. Then the argument slowly turned into a fight.

“We came forward from behind and started pacifying the quarrel. Stone pelting started from both sides. After this the people who were taking out the procession, they went to G block while the people of the other side went to C block. The matter seemed to be calming down, but some miscreants came again from the side of C Block, they had sword and rod in their hands and the women who were there started pelting stones from the roof tops. The police was present between these two sides. The police did not allow people from both the sides to clash with each other. Stones and bricks were being thrown by either side,” Medalal Meena said.

“There was a crowd of thousands in front of us. It seemed that we’ll be killed too. Soon people started getting angry. During this, we tried our best to convince people, but all went in vain. Then someone fired from the front. When I was dispersing the crowd, I got shot. The bullet was fired from the side of C block which hit me in my hand,” he added.
