India is one of the countries in the world which is progressing at the fastest rate. But for the development of any country, it is necessary to develop its highways. It would not be wrong to say that the development of highways is the development of the country in the real sense.
On this topic, News24 organized ‘Bharatmala’ conclave in the national capital Delhi on Tuesday.
Bharatmala is an ambitious project of the Government of India, through which the goal of connecting the whole of India through roads has been set.
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that opportunities are created in a country where these four things happen: water, electricity, transport and communication. During an event organized by News24, Gadkari recalled a saying of US President John Kennedy that America is rich, so America’s roads have not become good, but America has become rich by good roads.
Talking exclusively to News24 Editor-in-Chief Anuradha Prasad and Senior Anchor Sandeep Chaudhary, the Union Road Transport Minister says that people are happy with the work done so far, but it is only 15-20 percent. When the work is completed in the coming years, our road infrastructure will be like America by 2024.
Road infrastructure did not get priority after 1947
Nitin Gadkari said that we need such a way, which will benefit the poor, get employment and increase the growth rate of the country. He said that road infrastructure did not get priority after 1947. They say that public private investment in road infrastructure is essential for all development.
Speaking at the Bharatmala Conclave, Gadkari said, “In India 1.5 lakh people die every year, mostly young people. Not so many people die in any war or epidemic like the coronavirus pandemic. We are improving automobile engineering, road engineering to save lives. Spreading awareness through education. Correcting the block spots. He further said that under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, the central government provides a huge amount to connect the villages with roads. They say that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana was prepared at the behest of Atal ji.”
The public will beat me if I do not work
While talking about his plan ahead, he said in response to the question, ‘I am a dream leader, but if I do not fulfill the dreams, then the public will be beaten up. That’s why I fulfill my dreams too.
Gadkari said that the construction of the road will help in eradicating poverty in the country. At the same time, he recalled an anecdote from Mumbai.
“In 1995, I rejected the tender of Dhirubhai Ambani for Mumbai Poona Highway. He said that Dhirubhai Ambani had stopped me from building the road. After all, he told me that you won and I lost,” he said.
