To a blissful place showered with peace and harmony
Lord Buddha’s second visit on Bak Poya was a marvel to Nagadeepa
It is the present Jaffna that is identified as the then Nagadeepa
This is a landmark of considerable historic value
In modern Lanka, the most blessed Sacred venue
Buddha arrived here to settle a dispute with the view
Of uniting Chulodara, Mahodara – uncle and nephew
Here the Buddha transformed a battleground with pride
At the same time giving recognition to the Naga tribe
It was over the ownership of a gem-studded throne
Which was instantly handed over to the great one
War-stricken Lanka, Buddha saw with his divine eye
With his psychic powers, appeared above in the sky
Maniakkitha Naga king on his way to the battleground
Thanked profusely, seeing Buddha in the background
A deity occupying a tree in Jethawana during his visit
Held it as an umbrella to Buddha to gain merit
In history, this visit of Buddha occupied a unique place
As one that brought peace, unity and solace
History says where Kiripaluruka was planted
A Chetiya was built enshrining the tree and the throne
Pious kings like Devanape, Gamunu – royalty ancient
Converted this into a fully accomplished place sacred
They had a new breed of life enriched by Buddhist doctrine
Involving in Buddhist activities as a daily routine
Villages known as Mallakam and Chunnakam in and around
Indicate where flowers and incense were enormously found
Further, Puwangu, Ka-ara, Manda Divayina are known as
Popular places devoted to Buddhist activities
This Seya is supposed to be one of the 16 most
Sacred places to be worshipped topmost
Sacred Maha Naga Vihara stands unshaken to date
Blessing the entire region, its existence and good fate
The tradition coming down from Buddha days
Is continued by the present Sangha with immense praise
Buddhist statues are found under the widespread
Fan or hood signifying the bravo cobra head
The Lord Buddha with its rich, natural setting made Nagadeepa
A milestone and a most Sacred place in the then Lankadeepa
In religious annals, these events are of special significance
And of considerable historic value upheld with great reverence
