Kegalle SSP, Rambukkana SP, OIC transferred

The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in charge of the Kegalle Division, Superintendent of Police in charge of Rambukkana and Rambukkana Police OIC have been transferred with immediate effect in order to conduct an independent investigation and assist the ongoing judicial procedures.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickramaratne has handed over the ongoing investigations into the Rambukkana incident where one person shot dead and several others were injured during a public protest to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Department of Government Information issuing a press release yesterday said the IGP has also ordered the CID DIG W. Thilakaratne to submit an interim report on the progress of the investigations within three days.

The investigations have been handed over to the CID in accordance with the Article 125 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act.

The final rites of the shooting victim Chaminda Lakshan will take place today (22) at Hiriwadunna in Naranbedda.

The IGP has requested the Defence Secretary to deploy the Tri-Forces to this area in order to protect the law and order until the conclusion of the funeral.

Accordingly, the armed forces will have been deployed in the Dewalegama, Rambukkana and Kegalle police areas in Kegalle District until tomorrow (23).
