Karauli communal violence: 'BJP using this for political benefits, incite religious riots,' says Rajasthan Minister Vishvendra Singh

Jaipur:

Rajasthan Minister Vishvendra Singh on Thursday strictly warned against violating Section 144 that was imposed in Karauli district following the unrest broke out on April 2. The Cabinet Minister also accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of using the incident for its political gain.

“BJP is using this for their political benefits and incite religious riots. As a minister, I want to say that we will not allow anyone to violate section 144 and will arrest offenders for the same,” said Vishvendra Singh.

He further said, “Karauli incident is very unfortunate. 100 people were arrested, 27 cases have been registered.  Although section 144 was imposed, we allowed three vehicles of BJP leaders to enter, but later they went into a scuffle with Police.”

This comes after a day BJP’s Yuva Morcha national president and MP Tejasvi Surya along with the party workers was detained at Hindaun-Mahua Border while heading to violence-hit Karauli.

However, Surya later paid a visit to the victims of the Karauli incident at Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur. He also said the state is facing ‘jungle raj’ under Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government.

Surya said, “We’re witnessing ‘jungle raj’ under the Ashok Gehlot government. The condition of Karauli violence victims is critical. BJP will protest against this.”

Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) was imposed in the Karauli district of Rajasthan after stones were pelted during a ‘Shobha Yatra’ procession on April 2.

The state police arrested 46 people and detained seven others for interrogation following the stone-pelting incident.

The administration has also prohibited any objectionable sloganeering and singing or demonstration of similar activities.
