ICC appoints former-PCB chief executive Wasim Khan as General Manager of cricket

Wasim Khan, who was the Chief Executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board, is now appointed as ICC General Manager of Cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Friday. 

According to ICC, Wasim, who has performed as the chief executive of the Leicestershire County Cricket Club and Chance to Shine, will take up his post next month.

Khan will take over from Geoff Allardice, who successfully spent eight years in the same role. Recently, Allardice is promoted to ICC’s Chief Executing Officer. 

Allardice said, “I am delighted to welcome Wasim to the ICC. He brings an in-depth knowledge of our sport and its stakeholders and his firsthand experience of the international cricket landscape will be of enormous benefit as we implement the ICC global growth strategy and move forward into a new events cycle.” 

Wasim Khan added, “I am honoured to be joining the ICC, I can’t wait to get started and work in partnership with our Members to strengthen and grow our sport. I’m particularly excited by the ICC’s commitment to the growth of the women’s game, and I look forward to playing my part in really accelerating that growth over the next decade.”

For the uninversed, Wasim had joined the PCB on Feb 1, 2019, on a three-year contract. But last year in September, he was stepped down from the board’s chief executive position just four months before the end of his contract.

Taking to his field days, Khan is a former professional cricketer who played cricket in England from 1995 to 2001, during his professional days, he represented Warwickshire, Sussex and Derbyshire.

He also played for countries including Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, and in a 58-match career, he scored 2,835 runs with five centuries and 17 half-centuries, with the highest score of 181. Khan has also done MBA from Warwick Business School.
