Gujarat: Explosion kills 6 workers at chemical factory in Bharuch

Bharuch (Gujarat):

Six workers were killed in an explosion at a chemical factory in Gujarat’s Bharuch district on Monday.

The incident took place at around 3 a.m. in the Dahej industrial area, about 235 km from Ahmedabad, where a chemical factory caught fire, a police official told the media.

“The six victims were working near a reactor which suddenly exploded during solvent distillation process,” Bharuch Superintendent of Police Leena Patil said.

“The explosion in the reactor caught fire in the factory. All the six people working near the reactor died. The bodies were later recovered and sent for postmortem. The fire was also brought under control,” he added.

No one else was injured in the incident, the official said.
