Freight container charges to rise by 65%

The All Island United Container Transport Owners’ Association (AIUCTOA) yesterday announced that freight container transportation charges will be increased by 65 percent with immediate effect.

A spokesman from the AIUCTOA said freight container transportation industry is facing severe difficulties as a result of the gradual increase in the prices of fuel and spare parts. He said that import and export freight container transportation services need to be carried out for twenty-four hour period without any disturbance in order to ensure the operations at ports.That is why we have decided to increase the freight container transportation charges to minimize the difficulties arising with the gradual rising of fuel and spare parts prices,” he added.

The Sri Lanka Petroleum Private Tanker Owners’ Association (SLPPTOA) yesterday said that browser owners will be withdrawn from the fuel distribution duties following mass protests and unrest in the country.

Her said they will resume operations once their security is ensured by the CPSTL.The Association in a letter to the the Ceylon Petroleum Storage Terminals Limited (CPSTL) in Kolonnawa Terminal said that browsers can report back only if the allocated security is provided to their browsers.
