Former Assam MP Ripun Bora joins TMC after tendering resignation to Congress president

Hours later quitting the Congress, former Assam MP Ripun Bora on Sunday joined All India Trinamool Congress in the presence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee. Bora tendered his resignation to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday blaming the conflict among party leaders for their ‘vested interest’ as the reason behind resignation. 

Bora who is also a former Congress chief said, “Instead of fighting against BJP, a section of senior post leaders of Assam Congress have been maintaining secret understanding with BJP Govt mainly with the Chief Minister.”

The former Assam MP pointed out the defeat in Assam Assembly Election 2021 and said, “… we Congress emerged in such a way, people started to believe and expect of Congress forming government in 2021. But due to continuous inner fight by a section of senior most leaders of Assam PCC, people lost faith on us and did not give mandate to us to form the government.” 

Bora stressed upon his fight against the BJP and said, “With your blessings I as a Member of Rajya Sabha, during the last six years played very Pro- active and aggressive role against BJP, for which I was suspended from Rajya Sabha session on two occasions. I also successfully raised number of national issues and some vital issues relating to my state Assam, in Rajya Sabha.”

However, the former MP alleged that several Congress leaders have ‘secret understanding’ with BJP. He wrote, “I am very Pained to inform you that it is an open Secret in Assam that instead of fighting against BJP section of Senior most Leaders of Assam PCC  have been maintaining Secret understanding with BJP Govt mainly with the Chief Minister.”

Bora shared his resignation on twitter and wrote, “From today I have started my new political journey!”

Ripun Bora mentioned in his resignation that he had been with the Congress since 1976 right from his student life. He had served several important role in the party.
