Devotees of Lord Ram not safe in West Bengal: Shuvendu Adhikari

BJP leader Shuvendu Adhikari has claimed that a Ram Navami procession was attacked by the police in the Howrah district of West Bengal. He also said that many people have also been injured in the police action.

“Ram Bhakts are not safe in West Bengal. Personnel of Howrah Police Commissionerate thrashed Ram Navami procession participants in Shibpur. Many were injured. Are Sanatani devotees in this state safely practicing their religion?” Shuvendu Adhikari wrote on Twitter.

In a series of tweets, Shuvendu Adhikari wrote on Twitter shared several videos and pictures to show how people in the Ram Navami processions were allegedly attacked. The BJP leader also tagged the Union Home Ministry, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, the West Bengal Home Department and the West Bengal Police.

West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar also shared a picture on Twitter, which he claimed was that of an attack on a Ram Navami procession by Trinamool Congress (TMC) goons.

“From Howrah to Bankura, Lord Shri Ram’s procession on Ram Navami was attacked by TMC goons. Life of Hindus is not safe in West Bengal,” he said.

In a separate incident, Union Minister Dr Subhash Sarkar told that stones were pelted on Ram Navami procession in Bankura on Sunday. 

“It was done politically. They pelted stones at my car. I appeal to the police to identify the accused and arrest them,” he said.

Earlier, Hindu processions were attacked in Khunti in Jharkhand and Karauli in Rajasthan. During a religious procession in Khunti on April 5, stone pelting took place.

The attack on a procession in Rajasthan took place when Hindus took out a bike rally. The rally was attacked when it was crossing a Muslim-majority area. This resulted in large-scale violence in which more than two dozen people were injured. Police had to impose a curfew and shut down the internet

in the district

to control the situation.
