Delhi: NDMC to conduct anti-encroachment drive in Jahangirpuri

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) will take action against illegal encroachment. Under the program against encroachment by the NDMC, illegal construction in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi will be removed on April 20 and 21. 

There were reports of violence during the Shobha Yatra in Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti last Saturday. To maintain law and order during the crackdown on encroachment in the area, the NDMC has requisitioned 400 policemen from the Delhi Police.

Joint action against encroachment

In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North West, the NDMC has stated that the action to remove encroachments in Jahangirpuri jointly by the Public Works Department (PWD), local bodies, Delhi Police and Construction/Maintenance Department, Health Department, Sanitation Department will require at least 400 police personnel in order to maintain law and order during the encroachment removal drive.

NSA against five arrested in Jahangirpuri violence

Last Saturday, April 16, nine people, including eight policemen and a civilian, were injured in a violent clash between two groups during a Shobha Yatra in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. A total of 23 people have been arrested so far in connection with the incident, including two juveniles. 

The National Security Act (NSA) has been imposed against five of those arrested following the clashes in Jahangirpuri on Tuesday. In the wake of the Jahangirpuri violence, the Delhi Police is using drones to keep vigil in the area. 

A statement issued by the Delhi Police said that the situation in the area is calm at present.
