Delhi: Drugs worth Rs 100 crore recovered from Shaheen Bagh in Jamia Nagar

New Delhi:

The NCB after raiding the Shaheen Bagh area of Delhi’s Jamia Nagar seized around 50 kg of “high quality” heroin and arrested one person. The central anti-narcotics agency

NCB

had claimed

on Thursday

to have busted an India-Afghanistan drug-smuggling racket.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Deputy Director General (Operations) Sanjay Kumar Singh said during a press briefing that cash amounting to ₹30 lakh was also seized after an operation at a residential complex in South Delhi area on Wednesday. The official said the medicines were kept in backpacks and jute bags and wrapped in packets from e-commerce major Flipkart and other companies.

He said this is one of the biggest drug seizures in Delhi in recent times, that too from a residential area. Another 47 kg of “suspected” narcotics were also seized from the premises and the NCB has sent it to a laboratory for testing.

“It has been learned that an Indo-Afghan syndicate based in Delhi and NCR and neighboring states is linked to the case. These syndicates have expertise in manufacturing and adulteration of heroin at the local level,” Singh said. A senior official said that the kingpin of the syndicate is based in Dubai and the agency is probing the matter further.

The person who was arrested in the raid (an Indian national) does not live in this apartment in Shaheen Bagh but had rented it.

The NCB said that India-Afghanistan smuggled goods into India through sea and land-border routes and heroin is smuggled along with legitimate goods and cargo.

Later, heroin is extracted from these items by Indian members of these syndicates with the help of some Afghan nationals. The agency is conducting searches to bust the entire network and the smugglers are linked to operatives based in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.
