Covid-19 Pandemic: Delhi government issues SOPs for schools amid coronavirus surge

The Delhi government on Friday issued a new standard operating procedure (SOP) for schools in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases in the national capital. The AAP government in Delhi has asked schools to implement daily symptom checks, create quarantine rooms within the premises, use thermal scans and hand sanitisers, among other protocols.

The SOP outlines the various precautionary measures to be adopted in schools to contain the spread of COVID-19 infection apart from compliance with the measures/guidelines issued by the Delhi government from time to time.

Detailed guidelines here:

1: Students and staff should not be allowed to enter the school premises without thermal scanning.

2: Parents should be advised not to send their children to school if they test positive for coronavirus.

3: Students should also be directed to avoid sharing lunch, stationary objects etc.

4: The head of the school should ensure that all eligible students/staff/guests wear face masks properly.

5: The school should encourage vaccination among students and parents.

6: Schools should use all entry/exit gates of the school building to avoid overcrowding at the time of entry and exit of students.

The national capital has witnessed a spurt in COVID-19 cases in the last few days. On Thursday, Delhi reported 965 fresh Covid-19 cases. It was 1,009 on Wednesday, 632 on Tuesday and 501 on Monday.
