Covid-19: Health Minister chairs meeting on XE variant, directs to ensure availability of medicines

New Delhi: 

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday convened a review meeting where he discussed about the new Coronavirus strain- ‘XE variant’. He also directed medical infrastructure to stay prepared with the essential drugs for Covid treatment. 

The Minister tweeted, “Also reviewed the cases of Covid and gave instructions to further strengthen the ongoing monitoring and surveillance system to study new variants and cases of Covid.”

Mandaviya has asked the medical infrastructure and resources front to closely monitor the Coronavirus situation in the nation. 

“He further emphasised that the ongoing vaccination drive must be carried out at full pace and all eligible should be vaccinated,” it read.

“While reviewing the cases of Covid-19 in the country, he (Mandaviya) directed the officials to boost the ongoing monitoring and surveillance of new variants and cases,” read an official statement by the ministry.

The review meeting was attended by key experts and officials of the country. 

Meanwhile, India has reported 796 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, as per the Union health ministry data. With this, the active caseload has gone up to 11,889.
