By-poll results 2022: TMC sweeps Bengal, RJD wins in Bihar; Details inside

The results of the by-elections held in one Lok Sabha seat and four Legislative seats in the country have been declared. Shatrughan Sinha of TMC has won the Asansol Lok Sabha seat of Bengal, while Babul Supriyo of TMC has won the Ballygunge assembly seat.

On the other hand, RJD’s Amar Paswan has emerged victorious in Bihar’s Bochahan assembly seat. In Bihar, RJD has won over Bochahan Assembly. RJD candidate has defeated BJP’s rival by a margin of 35,000 votes. Congress has bagged Maharashtra’s Kolhapur North constituency and is leading in Chhattisgarh. 

The by-polls were necessitated after former Union Minister Babul Supriyo resigned as the Lok Sabha MP of Asansol after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He later joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The Ballygunge Assembly seat by-poll was necessitated after the demise of state Minister Subrata Mukherjee.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Supriyo had defeated TMC candidate Moon Moon Sen by a massive margin of 1,97,637 votes, securing 51.56 per cent of the total votes polled. In 2014, Supriyo’s victory margin was 70,480 votes.
