BIA entrance road blocked by protesters

The entrance road to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake from the Expressway was blocked at Averiwatta by protesters yesterday.

Passengers departing the country were highly inconvenienced. Some of them were seen walking to the airport premises with their baggage’s.

The protesters had blocked the entrance road to the BIA for about one hour yesterday afternoon.

Earlier in the day the protest organized by the Trade Union Coordinating Centre at Averiwatta against the high cost of living was attended by thousands of workers in the Katunayake Free Trade Zone.

They joined the protest without reporting to work in their factories.

The group had been participating in the protest from around 8.00 am chanting various slogans and resorted to block the BIA entrance in the afternoon.
