Odisha: 22, including 7 police personnel, injured after suspended BJD MLA runs car into crowd

Khordha (Odisha):

As many as 7 police personnel among 22 people got severely injured as a suspended BJD MLA from Odisha’s Chilika allegedly run his car over crowd before the Banapur Block Development Office (BDO) on Saturday. 

“Around 15 BJP workers, a BJD worker, and seven police personnel were injured in the incident. A probe has been initiated into the matter,” Balugaon Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) said.

The suspended Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev was going to Banapur in his SUV for election to the post of block chairperson that has been scheduled to take place today. As soon as the incident occurred, the gathered people attacked Jagdev and vandalised his vehicle. 

Jagdev suffered critical injuries and has been admitted to the hospital where he is going under treatment. 

The BJD had suspended Jagdev last year alleging him of “anti-party” activities as he had assaulted a BJP leader near Chilika lake. The incident took place in September last year, after which he was arrested a month later. He was sent to jail after a sessions court rejected his bail petition. (ANI)
