Litro, Laugfs suspend gas distribution

Litro and Laugfs Gas Companies have suspended the distribution of domestic LP Gas cylinders.

A spokesman for Litro Gas said that this decision was made since adequate stocks of gas have not been received.

A senior spokesman for Laugfs Gas said that the Finance Ministry has yet to grant them an opportunity for a discussion regarding gas. Meanwhile, 12 days have passed since two ships carrying gas arrived and are anchored in Sri Lanka’s seas.

It has not been possible to get the gas on board those ships released up to now, since the dollar amounts due have not yet been paid. It is said that within such a background, Sri Lanka will have to pay demurrage of US Dollars 18,000 per day for each day of delay.
