Nuwara Eliya District Judge and Magistrate Pradeep Jayasinghe has imposed fines totalling Rs. 510,000 on 23 persons arrested on January 1 by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol and without valid driving licences.
The suspects were arrested by the Talawakele Police Traffic Division and produced before court last Friday.
The Magistrate also suspended the driving licences of all persons found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol, for a period of three months.
The suspects were arrested during a raid carried out by the Talawakele Police Traffic Division on January 1.
