Send children to school only if you feel it's safe: Aaditya Thackeray to parents as physical classes resume in Maharashtra

Schools across Maharashtra have resumed physical classes from today (Monday) after the state government gave its nod last week to start offline teaching. The pre-primary classes along with the schools for classes from 1 to 12 have been allowed to call students following approval from their parents.

State Cabinet Minister Aaditya Thackrey has asked parents to make up their minds and send their children to schools only if they feel it is safe for them.

He said, “Even though we are re-opening schools, it is not compulsory for students to come to school. Parents are free to make their own decisions in this regard and should send their children to school only if they feel it is safe.”

However, schools in Aurangabad and Pune will continue to remain closed due to the rise in Covid cases. Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar on Saturday informed that the administration has not taken any decision for resuming physical classes in Pune.

The decision on reopening schools in a particular area is in the hands of the local administration. If the Covid-19 cases decreases then decision on reopening schools in those areas will be considered.

Various school administrations have made the arrangements including complete sanitisation of campus. A school in Mumbai’s Sion has informed that they are allowing only those students whose parents have given permission in writing.

Swaroop Sawant a School Principal of

Sadhana Vidyalaya, Sion said, “

We have sanitized school premises. We’re allowing only those students who have written permission from their parents.”

Last week, Maharashtra School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad said, “From 24 (January) we will be reopening schools for classes 1-12th with COVID protocols; CM has agreed to our proposal.”

Gaikwad informed that a meeting was held with the task force and Parents Teacher association where the officials supported the idea of opening schools again. Parents are required to give their consent agreeing on the term to send their children to school.
