Rape case filed against celebrity Youtuber Sreekanth Vettiyar

New Delhi:

A case has been filed against Kerala celebrity YouTuber Sreekanth Vettiyar for allegedly raping a Pathanamthitta native woman on the pretext of marriage. The case was registered by the Kochi Central Police based on a complaint lodged by the woman.

A case under section 376 (2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the blogger for reportedly raping a woman at a flat in Aluva.

The petitioner, the mother of an eight-year-old boy, became close with Sreekanth Vettiyar while she was living in Kochi.

In her complaint, the woman said that she was invited to Sreekanth’s birthday party in 2021 where he raped her. He also called her in a hotel room in Kochi city and allegedly assaulted her sexually.

The Kerala Police is likely to summon Vettiyar based on the woman’s allegations.

“We registered the case based on a complaint filed with us. The investigation is on. Complainant says he raped her at a flat in Aluva and a hotel in Kochi,” the police said.

This is not the first time that Sreekanth Vettiyar has been levelled with such allegations. The Facebook page ‘Women Against Sexual Harassment’ had earlier levelled two #Metoo allegations against her.

Sreekanth Vettiyar is a Youtuber well-known for his spoof videos. The woman, in her complaint, said that she became a fan of the Youtuber for his stands on social media on issues like women’s empowerment and political correctness.
