A 46-year-old individual was reported shot dead in the Turkish Village in Midigama around 8 p.m. on Thursday. The deceased, Jayasekara Newson Kumara, a father of three, has been shot at his residence by a gunman on a motorcycle, police said.He had been admitted to Walana Hospital and died while being transferred to Matara Hospital.
The victim had returned home on that day after appearing for a court case at the Matara Magistrate Courts.
The Magistrate had declared the verdict of the case on that day and had ordered the respondent party to pay a compensation to the deceased. One suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting. He is a resident of Pathegama area.
Weligama Police are conducting investigations to identify if there is any connection between the said court case and the shooting. Meanwhile, the Ella Police have arrested another suspect for killing a person with a crow-bar at Udu-Kumbalwela area on Thursday night.
The deceased is a 35-year-old resident of Illukgodawatta,Udu-Kumbalwela.He died in admission to the Badulla Hospital.
A heated argument developed between the two parties have resulted in this murder, police said.The arrested is currently receiving treatment at the Diyathalawa hospital for his injuries.
Police are investigating.
