India COVID-19 update: 1,59,632 new cases, 327 deaths in single day; daily positivity rate at 10.21%

India COVID-19 update:

India has recorded 1,59,632 new cases in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has reported Sunday. After the fresh infections, the country now has 5,90,611 active cases of coronavirus. Daily positivity rate has risen to 10.21 per cent.

So far, 3,55,28,004 people in the country have been infected by COVID-19.

The new cases are 17,646 more, or 12.42 per cent higher, than those recorded a day ago.

As per the health ministry, active cases comprises 1.66 per cent of the total infection. The weekly positivity rate is currently at 6.77 per cent.

Maharashtra and Delhi continue to report maximum number of fresh COVID-19 infections in the country for the past few days. 

There country has till now reported 3,623 cases of Omicron of which 2,214 are active cases. 

India COVID-19 deaths

In the last 24 hours, 327 patients have died of COVID-19, taking the country’s total fatalities to 4,83,790.

India COVID-19 recoveries

As many as 40,863 patients have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours. This has increased the total recoveries to 3,44,53,603. Recovery rate now stands at 96.88 per cent.

India COVID-19 vaccination

India has been inoculating its population against COVID-19 under the nationwide vaccination drive. So far, over 151.58 crore (1,51,57,60,645) COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the country. 

In the last 24 hours, 89,28,316 COVID-19 vaccine doses were given in India. Of these, 23,16,528 received their first dose, while 40,88,716 got their second dose of vaccine. 

Vaccination for children between 15 and 18 years of age was started in the country on January 3, 2021. On Saturday, 25,23,072 children between this age group got their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

India COVID-19 testing

The country has been tracking, testing and treating people against COVID. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 15,63,566 samples were tested for COVID-19. So far, 69,00,34,525 samples have been tested across the country for coronavirus.
