COVID-19: Haryana invokes ESMA, banks strike by healthcare workers for 6 months

Chandigarh:

Amid rising cases of COVID-19 in the country, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar-led Haryana government on Tuesday invoked Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) in the state.

“ESMA has been implemented in Haryana. Now health workers will not be able to go on strike for six months. This step has been taken after a group of doctors went on strike to obstruct the prevention of COVID-19,” Haryana Minister Anil Vij tweeted.

This came after the executive body of Haryana Civil Medical Service Association earlier today sat on a dharna at Civil Hospital, Sector-6, Panchkula over three demands including formation of specialized cadre and revision of postgraduate policy.

Haryana on Monday reported 5,736 new COVID-19 cases in 24 hours taking the active caseload to 22,477.
