Center issues new Covid-19 guidelines for children below 18 years of age

New Delhi:

The central government has issued revised guidelines for the prevention of Covid-19 cases among children below 18 years of age.

Earlier guidelines were reviewed by a group of experts. The current wave of the coronavirus pandemic has been attributed mainly to the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus.

According to the new guidelines, if steroids are used, they should be reduced in 10-14 days as soon as they improve. The center has also placed more emphasis on post-covid care.

asks are not recommended for children below five years of age. Children ages 6-11 can wear may safely and appropriately under the supervision of their parents, depending on their ability to use the mask. Children who are 12 years of age and older should wear the same mask as adults.

The ministry said antimicrobial drugs are not recommended for treatment or prophylaxis in asymptomatic and mild cases. In moderate and severe cases antimicrobial drugs should not be prescribed unless a supernatant infection is suspected.

However, regardless of the severity of the infection, the use of antiviral or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for children under 18 years of age.

New guidelines:

– According to the guidelines, the patient should wear a triple layer mask.

– Asymptomatic and mild cases: Antimicrobials are not recommended for therapy or prophylaxis.

– Moderate to severe cases: Antimicrobial drugs should not be prescribed unless a supernatant infection is suspected.

– Steroids without Covid-19 are harmless in symptoms and mild cases.

– Steroids should be used at the right time, in the right dose and for the right duration.

– Corticosteroids can be used in rapidly progressive moderate and all severe cases.

– Steroids should be avoided in the first three to five days after the onset of symptoms, as it prolongs viral shedding.

– Post-covid care: Children with asymptomatic or mild disease should receive regular childcare, proper immunizations (if eligible), and nutritional counseling.

– Parents or caregivers of children who have experienced moderate to severe covid during discharge from the hospital should be advised of constant monitoring or surveillance for difficulty breathing.
