Appeal Centre to declare Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's birth anniversary a National Holiday: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has on Sunday once again appealed the Central government to declare Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary on January 23 as a national holiday.

In a Tweet, Banerjee said declaring Netaji’s birth anniversary a National Holiday will allow the entire country to pay homage to the national leader and celebrate Desh Nayak Diwas in most befitting manner.  

“We again appeal to the Central Government that Netaji’s birthday be declared a National Holiday to allow the entire Nation to pay homage to the National Leader and celebrate #DeshNayakDibas in most befitting manner,” Mamata Banerjee tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee payed homage to Netaji on his 125th birth anniversary. “A national and global icon, Netaji’s rise from Bengal is unmatched in the annals of Indian history. He is an epitome of patriotism, courage, leadership, unity and brotherhood. Netaji has been and will continue to be an inspiration for generations,” she wrote. 

The West Bengal Chief Minister also informed that the state tableau that was to be displayed on the Republic Day Parade on ‘Netaji’ will also feature other eminent freedom fighters from Bengal to commemorate the 75th year of Independence of our country. 

Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered tributes to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 125th birth anniversary in the Central Hall of the Parliament House.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi later today will unveil a grand statue of the legendary freedom fighter will be installed at India Gate “as a symbol of India’s indebtedness to him”.
