Ampara and Kilinochchi districts dominated the National Kabaddi Championships to take men’s and women’s titles at the finals held at the Ministry of Sports Indoor Stadium on Monday. The National Kabaddi Federation successfully conducted this tournament after laps of two years due to the global pandemic.
The men’s final between Ampara and Batticaloa was a keen tussle and finally, the Ampara district team recorded a 56-20 win over the Batticaloa district team.
Meanwhile, the Kilinochchi district team notched up a thrilling 36/31 win over the Jaffna district team to win the women’s title. The first half was dominated by the Jaffna team-leading 21-16 but the Kilinochchi team fought back strongly during the second half to win the championship. More than 15 women’s teams and 25 men’s teams took part in this tournament which gave good match exposure for the Kabaddi players after some time. (D.R)
