AAP to announce CM candidate for Punjab soon, Bhagwant Mann likely to be the face

New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will soon announce its chief ministerial candidate for the Punjab Assembly election 2022. There is a possibility that the party could name its Lok Sabha MP from Sangrur constituency, Bhagwant Mann as its CM’s face for Punjab polls.

AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who has recovered from COVID-19, is scheduled to address an important press conference at noon today.

As per reports, Bhagwant Mann’s name has been approved in the party’s PAC meeting.

For the unversed, AAP has announced names of its candidates for 104 of the 117 assembly seats in the state, putting to rest speculation. Mann’s has not been fielded in any of the seats so far.

Mann, who has won two consecutive Lok Sabha polls, is the only leader in AAP’s Punjab unit with a mammoth mass following. He is an effective and a powerful speaker.

Mann, AAP’s Punjab unit chief, has stayed loyal to the party even when several top leaders including Sukhpal Khaira, HS Phoolka, Sucha Singh Chhotepur, Gurpreet Ghuggi diassociated themselves from the party.

Notably, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has said on multiple occasions that his party will announce its Chief Ministerial face ahead of the Punjab assembly elections 2022 and that he will be a Sikh.

Aam Aadmi Party is constantly trying to find its hold before the elections in Punjab. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal himself has held several rallies for the promotion of the party in Punjab.

The Election Commission of India has announced the voting dates in five-poll bound states. In Punjab, the voting will be held in a single phase on February 14, 2022. The poll will be witnessing tough fight between Congress, AAP, BJP, SAD and Amarindar Singh’s new formed party – Punjab Lok Congress.
