Yugadanavi deal signed with another company, not NFH

The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) revealed in Parliament yesterday that the Kerawalapitiya LNG agreement was signed not with New Fortress but with another company. JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated this and tabled the relevant agreement.

Presenting the agreement, he said that it was the agreement that the government was hiding without presenting it to Parliament.Dissanayake was speaking during the Budget Committee stage debate on the Finance Ministry’s Expenditure Head.

The MP questioned the government on what basis it had signed an agreement with another company disregarding the permission given by the Cabinet.

“Based on a Cabinet Paper presented on September 6 signed by Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, authority was granted to the Treasury Secretary to sign the agreement with New Fortress Energy Company. But, as far as I know this agreement has not been submitted to Cabinet or Parliament. However, I am in possession of this agreement and I am tabling it. The question is about who gets approval to sign the agreement with whom? Approval has been given to sign the agreement with New Fortress, but whom have they signed the agreement with? It has been signed with NFE Sri Lanka Power Holding LLC,” he added. He noted that this agreement had been signed on September 21, adding that the agreement contained a clause stating that the contents should not be disclosed to the public or the country without the consent of both parties for the first two years.
