Watch: Taliban, Pakistan Army exchange artillery fire over Durand Line fence

Islamabad:

The Pakistan military establishment had celebrated wildly after the Afghan Taliban captured Kabul and extended its rule over most of Afghanistan following 20 years of war with the US and NATO.

However, the celebratory mood within the Pakistan Army soured quickly as the Taliban government of Afghanistan snubbed Pakistan on several occasions.

If latest reports are to be believed, the love affair between the Taliban and the Pakistan Army seems to be well and truly over. The Taliban has turned into a big problem for Pakistan.

Tension on the Durand Line has increased after the Taliban exchanged fire with the Pakistan Army over fencing on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The Pakistan Army had put up a barbed wire fence along the

Durand Line,

which was uprooted by Taliban fighters. Angered by this, the Pakistan Army opened up artillery fire across the border.

A video being shared on social media showing Taliban fighters confiscating spools of barbed wire. A senior official of Afghanistan’s Taliban government has asked the Pakistan Army not to try to fence the Durand Line again.

News agency ANI quoted local media as saying that the Taliban have removed barbed wire installed by the Pakistan Army along the Durand Line in the Gushta district of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.
