Telangana sees single-day spike in Omicron cases, 12 test positive for new COVID-19 variant

Telangana saw a steep rise in Omicron cases, with 12 people testing positive for the new variant of COVID-19. The state’s tally has risen to 20.   

Of the 12 new Omicron cases in Kerala, two were passengers from nations that are in the list of “at risk” by the Centre, while 10 arrived from the “non-risk” countries, a state health department bulletin said.

The genome sequencing report of three other people are awaited. 

Telangana on Saturday reported 185 new cases, one death due to COVID-19. The health bulletin by the state government stated that Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) alone reported 78 cases, followed by Medchal Malkajgiri district where 15 patients tested positive for the virus. 

So far, 6,79,430, people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the state, while overall death toll mounted to 4,014. The number of active cases in the state is 3,761. 

As many as 205 patients recovered from COVID-19 on Saturday increasing the cumulative recoveries till date to 6,71,655.
