Susal and Chanindi win chess gold medals

Susal De Silva of Nalanda College and Chanindi Attanayake of Devi Balika emerged champions of National Chess Championship yesterday. Susal the 15 year old promising chess player scored 7.5 points out of 9 possible games being unbeaten to win the title while Chanindi reached to a milestone of her Chess career when she beat the all time leader Desandi Dihansa Gamage to reach the top of the women’s event with a score of 7 points.

She lost only one game to Janandani Abeysinge, drew two other games and scored 7 points.

Meanwhile Theeksana Denuwan of Ananda College had a fare result where he kept from the beginning to win the Silver Medal.

Desandi Gamage of Sirimavo Bandaranayake Vidyalaya had a remarkable event where she led the event till the penultimate round with 6.5 points and had to be satisfied with the Silver medal due to the last round defeat.

Tharushi Niklesha also scored 6.5 points, but had to satisfy with the Bronze medal due to the poor tie breaker.

The Sri Lanka National B Chess Championship which was conducted to select players for the Sri Lanka National Chess Championships 2021 is organized by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka. (D.R)
