Speed Hill Climb conducted successfully


The Speed Hill Climb car and motorcycle competition organized by Senkadagala Motor Sports Club and Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club was conducted successfully on, 11th December Motor Cycle and Club Events and on 12th Motor Car Events. Some of the keen Motor cyclists and motor car lovers were seen in action, and the participants gave their best. This was held after fifteen years.

Good News for Athletes

Good news for athletes, who are waiting to give their best in this sport. The newly elected Kandy District Athletics Association president Dilum Amunugama a former Trinity College and Kandy athlete is all out to give his best and put the sport in the correct path along with his committee.

Regarding athletics promotion discussion took place at the Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat,to come out with a much needed Athletic Event, which will be organized under proper hygienic practices.

It was nice to see minister Dilum Amunugama, DIG Kandy Chandana Alahakoon, Vice President of the Kandy Athletic Association Ruwan Thilakaratne, Secretary Sanath Weerawardena, Divisional Secretaries , Medical Officers of Health being present at this meeting held on Monday the 13th at the Harispattuwa Divisional Secretariat.

Rajans OBA out to play big match

Dharmaraja Colege Old boys Association led by sportsmen Tissa Jayasinghe are going all out to play their big match against Kingswood College, it may be two or one day game.

This is the second oldest big match in the country and most looked forward to sporting event of the two schools and last year the match was not played due to Covid 19 . If they play this time it will be the 114th encounter known as the Battle of the Maroons. This encounter is the oldest big match in Kandy.

The first match was played in 1893, with the Dharmaraja College team captained by the great educationist, later Sir Don Baron Jayathilake, who was the principal of Dharmaraja at that time.

The Kingswood team was captained by A.E. Spencer. It was played at the Bogambara grounds, which is no longer a cricket venue.

The first all-schoolboy Big Match was played in 1899 with J.C. de Mel captaining Dharmaraja and T.B. Marshall leading Kingswood.

In the 113 matches played so far, Dharmaraja leads with 33 wins against 19 by Kingswood with 56 matches ending in draws.

The last win for Dharmaraja was in 2015 under Tharusha Weragoda and Kingswood’s last win was in 1958 under Maurice Fernando.
