Senura and Muthumali emerge TT champions

Senura Silva and Muthumali Priyadharshani emerged men’s and women’s champions at the 74th Senior National Table Tennis championship which concluded at Bandaragama Indoor Sports Complex on Sunday .

The 16-year-old Senura from Ananda College won the junior National title last week once again came up with fine performance to beat Krishan Wickramaratne of Vidyartha Kandy to take men’s singles title for the first time. Senura was able to pocket his second title in this tournament with winning men’s double final . He was partnered with Chameera Ginige. They defeated Krishan Wickramaratne and Nirmala Jayasinghe at the men’s doubles final.

Meanwhile Muthumali Priyadharshani who created history by entering quarters at the recently concluded Asain Championship was in fine form once again and won the women’s final defeating Hansani Piumila who was the defending champion .

Hansani Piumila partnered with Nimesh Ranchagoda won the mixed doubles title with defeating Jithara Warnakulasuriya and Senura Silva. The women’s double title won by Tedini Thushara and Maleesha Salindi when they defeated Jithara Warnakulasuriya and Thanushi Rodrigo in the finals .

The Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka ( TTASL) conducted this tournament and State Minister of Rural and Schools Infrastructure improvement Thenuka Vidhanagamage was the chief guest at the awards ceremony while TTASL President State Minister Kanaka Herath also graced the occasion.
