PM Modi to inaugurate new campus of BASE University today

Bengaluru:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the new campus of Dr B R Ambedkar School of Economic University, or BASE University, on Monday in Bengaluru. The new building is constructed on Jnanabharati Campus of Bengaluru University. 

The inauguration of the campus coincides with the death anniversary of BR Ambedkar. The Prime Minister also said is scheduled to address the Chaitya Bhumi programme via video conference today. 

The construction of the new building drew inspiration from the London School of Economics and was build two years ago. It has been constructed by the department of housing with an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.

The new building is being inaugurated four years after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced the first academic session of BASE University on October 4, 2017.

In November, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj S Bommai and minister for higher education Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana held a meeting with officials and ministers regarding the preparations for the event. 

The meeting was also attended by state minister including V Somanna, CN Ashwathnarayan, Muniratna and senior officials Kumar Naik, Gaurav Gupta, Selvakumar and Chancellor of the university Dr Bhanumurthy. 

Minister for higher education Dr CN Ashwatha Narayana in a statement jad said that the study centre has been established with the aim of making Ambedkar’s dream of empowering marginalised sections of the society a reality.
