PM launches Buddhist information system

The unveiling of an information system containing information of all Buddhist temples island-wide was held at Temple Trees under the patronage of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday evening.
 
This information compiled by the Department of Buddhist Affairs is available to the public at dba.gov.lk.
 
This project has been implemented under the project of Digitization of Government Institutions on the instructions of the Prime Minister who is also the Minister of Buddhasasana Religious and Cultural Affairs.
 
The Department of Buddhist Affairs is expected to perform its duties in connection with the publication of the Buddhist Information System through the same database from January 03.
 
Under this, the registration of temples, the acceptance of the posts of Chief Incumbents as well as the provision of opportunities for institutions and individuals for the development of temples will be formalized.
 
This database currently contains information on 13972 temples and facilitates access to relevant information at the district level.
 
The number of venerable Thero’s belonging to 13972 temples is 44846.
