Around 8,200 chickens were killed at a poultry farm in Waradala, Kotadeniyawa following a fire which broke out on Saturday. The owner of the farm is said to have suffered losses amounting to over five million rupees due to the fire.
A large amount of eggs too had been destroyed due to the fire.
Police suspect that an electricity shortage had caused the fire.The fire had been doused by the Negombo Fire Brigade. No injuries were caused to workers.
Further investigations are being carried out by the police.
