Officer agrees to pay Rs 8.9 mn swindled money

The officer who allegedly committed a multi-million rupee financial irregularity at the Hanguranketha Zonal Education Office has pleaded guilty and agreed to pay Rs. 8.9 million which has been revealed as a loss to the government.

Accordingly, the Central Provincial Director of Education has sent a letter to the Chief Secretary of the Central Province on December 29requesting permission to recover the estimated loss from that person.

The Provincial Director of Education has stated in the letter that until the final assessment of the extent of the fraud is made and a report is issued, action will be taken to recover the amount that has been found to have been embezzled.

Investigations have revealed that the person who has been working as a Development Officer attached to the Accounts Division of the Hanguranketha Zonal Education Office has been involved in this financial fraud since 2012 in the payment of teachers’ salaries.
