Spokesman of the Excise Department, Excise Commissioner Kapila Kumarasinghe said that permits have not been issued to hotels and restaurants for issuing liquor on Christmas Day.
The media spokesman of the Excise Department said in the past as well permission had been given to provide liquor, only to foreign tourists at hotels which have accommodation facilities and approved by the Tourist Board on Christmas day.
Kumarasinghe said that tourist hotels and restaurants are making requests to grant them permission to serve liquor on Christmas Day and that no discussions have been held regarding these requests nor has a decision been made as yet.
