New COVID explosion in Karnataka as 94 students, school staff test positive

Chikkamagaluru:

As many as 94 students of a residential school in Narasimharajapura taluk have tested positive for COVID-19. On Monday, 35 students have tested positive for the virus.

On Sunday, 59 students and 10 staff members of the government school tested positive for coronavirus.

As per reports swab samples of as many as 457 students and staff members of the residential school run by the Central government were collected after a teacher tested positive last week.

All the students and staff members who reported coronavirus positive did not show any symptoms. The students are under medical care by a team of doctors. They are quarantined in a portion of a hostel within the campus.

The school has been sealed and sanitization work being carried out.

The new COVID-19 cluster in Karnataka comes in mere ten days after a medical college in Dharwad reported more than 300 students, including from the fresh batch and seniors, tested positive for coronavirus.

Notably, India’s first case of Omicron was reported in Karnataka last week after two people tested positive for the new variant. Testing capacity at the airports have been ramped up and all the international passengers have to undergo mandatory RTPCR test, irrespective of their vaccination status.
