Liquor shops to be closed on Christmas Day

Excise Commissioner General M.J. Gunasiri has instructed all liquor shops countrywide that their shops should be closed for business on Christmans Day (25).

Restaurants at tourist hotels too are not permitted to sell liquor to outsiders on that day although tourists who are staying as residential guests are allowed to be served limited quantities of liquor on request.

The Excise Department has informed all tourist hotels of this.

Over 1,500 officers would be deployed countrywide to ensure the liquor rule is observed that day. Violators would be arrested on the spot by investigators of the Department.
