In Pics: Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to PT Thomas

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday paid tribute to Kerala Congress MLA PT Thomas, who passed away at the age of 71 on Wednesday.

“Rahul Gandhi pays humble tributes to Late PT Thomas, at Town Hall, Kochi, Kerala. The Congress party has lost a guide, a visionary and a huge asset. The Congress party is committed to walk on the path he has left behind to ensure the progress of our people,” read a post on the Congress party’s official Twitter handle.

Thomas passed away early on Wednesday at Christian Medical College, Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He was undergoing treatment for pancreas related ailments. 

Thomas is survived by wife Uma Thomas, and sons Vishnu Thomas and Vivek Thomas.  Since 2016, Thomas represented the Thrikkakara Assembly constituency in Ernakulam. He also served as one of three working president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

From 2009 to 2014, PT Thomas represented Idukki constituency in the Lok Sabha. Twice he represented Thodupuzha constituency in Kerala  Legislative Assembly.

Born in 1950, PT Thomas started his political career as worker of Kerala Students Union (KSU). The KSU is the student outfit of the Congress in Kerala.
