Eco-friendly tourist destinations for the first time in Sri Lanka

Steps have been taken to develop nine tourist destinations as sustainable tourist destinations, which will forbid the use and disposal of plastic.
 
The tourist destinations were selected while covering all nine province of the country.
 
This is being implemented with the support of the United Nations Development Fund’s (UNDP) Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) .
 
They are: Sigiriya sustainable destination, Pilikuttuwa Local Heritage destination, Wanathawilluwa Gangewadiya, Ellewala Waterfall, Waulpane Cave, Delft Island, Madunagala Hot Springs, Panama Village and Mihintale.
 
Meanwhile, Sigiriya and Yala National Parks have already been promoted as the first eco-friendly sustainable tourist destination.
