Archbishop condoles on death of Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana

Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith emphasized that the Heads of every State must strictly enforce the law in order to prevent extremist, brutal crimes committed in the name of the religions.

He stated this issuing a condolence statement over the death of Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana, who was lynched by mobs in Sialkot, Pakistan. The Archbishop said that he was deeply saddened by hearing about this barbaric killing committed by the extremists in Pakistan and it is thoroughly condemned.

The Archbishop also conveyed his deepest sympathies to the family of late Priyantha Kumara Diyawadana and said he prays to the God on behalf of them.

“The extremists committing such barbaric killings in the name of the religion, but with the aim of achieving their political agendas is a huge disgrace to the religions,” he said.

“The reason why we always demand strict action against such murders and their supporters is to prevent the repetition of such unacceptable incidents,” he further said.

The Archbishop also said he is hopeful that the Pakistani Leadership would take immediate action against this unjustified murder.
