Advisory for low-pressure area south-east of Sri Lanka issued

The low pressure area still persist in the south-east Bay of Bengal and it is likely to move eastnortheastwards. Showers or thundershowers with wind speed of (40-50) kmph gusting up to (60-70) kmph can be expected over these sea areas, the meteorology department said.

The fishing and naval communities are advised not to venture the sea areas between the 02N and 10N (latitudes) and 90E to 100E (longitudes) until further notice. ·

Those who are out at sea over these regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas.

Meanwhile a few showers will occur in Eastern, North-Central and Uva provinces and in Matale district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in Rathnapura, Kaluthara, Nuwara-Eliya, Galle and Matara districts during the evening or night.

Mainly fair weather will prevail elsewhere.

General public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The sea areas off the coast extending from Kankasanturai to Colombo via Mannar and Puttalam can be rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be moderate at times.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
