The water levels in several main rivers are rising to flood stage due to the prevailing heavy showers.
The water level of the Gurugoda Oya and Kuda Ganga have reached to ‘Minor Flood Level’.
In the meantime, Kelani River, Kalu Ganga, Gin Ganga, Nilwala Ganga, Mahaweli Ganga, Yan Oya, Malwathu Oya too have reached ‘Alert levels’ at N’ Street, Putupaula, Baddegama, Thalgahagoda, Peradeniya and Horowpatana areas due to the prevailing heavy rainfall, stated the Disaster Management Center.
Accordingly, the people living in low-level areas of these rivers have been advised to move to safer locations due to the threat of floods.
