UPTET 2021 paper leak: 23 people arrested with photocopies of question paper

At least 23 people have been arrested in connection with the paper leak of the UPTET 2021 examination. The Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test 2021 which was scheduled to be held on Sunday (November 28), has been cancelled after the question paper went viral on several WhatsApp group in three cities – Mathura, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahr.

Prashant Kumar, Additional Director General (ADG), Law and Order said, “23 people have been arrested from across the state. Few photocopies of the question papers were found from those arrested. The exam will be again conducted in a month’s time. STF to probe the case and take action against those found guilty.” 

Basic Education Minister Dr Satish Dwivedi said the case will be investigated by Special Task Force (STF). “The paper leak of UPTET 2021 exam will be conducted by UP STF. Uttar Pradesh government will soon conduct the exam within a month,” he added. 

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today said free services will be provided by the State Road Transport Corporation buses to the students appearing for the UPTET 2021 examination and no additional fee will be charged from any candidate. In a tweet, the Uttar Pradesh CM said, “The state government is standing with the candidates of UPTET. The re-examination will be conducted in a transparent manner within one month. No additional fee will be charged from any candidate. The candidates appearing for the examination will be given free travel facilities in Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTCHQ) buses.” 

Earlier in the day, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a jibe at Uttar Pradesh government and said that the state is at peak of educational corruption.

“Cancellation of UPTET 2021 exam paper due to leak is playing with the future of 20 lakh unemployed candidates. Paper leaks, cancellation of exams and results are common in the BJP government. UP is at the peak of educational corruption. There will be a revolution of the unemployed in 2022,” Yadav tweeted.

Other opposition parties also attacked Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Uttar Pradesh government. Congress leader Anshu Awasthi said, “The paper leak shows that ‘Yogi sarkar’ is a complete failure. Earlier, such papers were also leaked. This is a planned attack on the youths of Uttar Pradesh. BJP government only works on religious polarisation.”

Samajwadi Party leader Juhi Singh said, “The government should feel ashamed. Students had worked very hard for the exams. This government is in intention to give employments to the youths of the state. This government only knows to slam the opposition parties from large stages.”

As many as 21.5 lakh candidates were scheduled to take the UPTET 2021 exam, conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board (UPBEB). The examination was to be held at several designated examination centres across 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.
