Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha Deputy Chairman K.G.Piyatissa and two members were arrested by the Mawanella police yesterday following a complaint lodged by several teachers of the Mederigama Maha Vidyalaya. They were bailed by Courts .This was due to the involvement of Piyatissa against a teacher-principal and parents protest carried out near the school on November 3. Piyatissa along with the two other PS members threatened the parents and teachers there.
Following this incident, the Teachers’ Union collective launched a massive protest in the Mawanella town insisting that police take the offenders into custody.
Mawanella Police OIC CI Asela Herath said the suspects will be produced before the Mawanella Magistrate’s Courts. He said that police are carrying out further investigations.
